It should be stressed that education systems can often judged in terms of equality of opportunity. This equality can be achieved through joining students’ unions where students will have a chance to keep abreast of the recent events taking place at college. More importantly, a matter of equality is revealed through voting during the elections where everyone has the right to introduce some changes and reform in an educational process. How can a student benefit from voting? 1.Student will have an opportunity to participate in the process of decision making. They should keep in mind that elections are necessary for sustaining democracy and freedom of choice. 2.Elections provide people with a possibility to complain if there is something that does not coincide with their own views on educational policies. 3.Regular elections motivate the government to be more active and do everything possible for achieving an excellent standard of education. 4.Students should vote in case they care for the future of their establishment and for next generation that is going to study here. 5.Now, when there is a gender and racial equality, women, and national minorities have a brilliant opportunity to protect their rights and freedoms. 6.Finally, elections contribute to the rise of awareness among both students and teachers. Moreover, students unions working on the basis of elections. 7.Considering this question more globally, students’ union elections can provide an example for other educational institutions and impel them improve their election system. So, voting is a brilliant chance for self-determination and self-assertion. In case you have to say something, or are keen on introducing some amendments to the academic process, do not be afraid of making the first step and expressing your attitude. This will surely be of great use for other generations.

Feminism: The Pursuit Of Equality

Feminism existed in the history long long time ago, and the equality between men and women has been the perpetual topic in the world.

Throughout history, women have always struggled to gain equality, respect, and the same rights as men. This has been difficult because of patriarchy, an ideology in which men are superior to women and have the right to rule women. This ideology has permeated the social structures of societies throughout the world and as a result, even in the new millennium, women are still struggling for rights that most men take for granted. The struggle was even more difficult for women of color because not only were they dealing with issues of sexism, but also racism. In order to fight patriarchy, feminism and feminist theory was born.

What is feminism? By general definition, feminism is a philosophy in which women and their contributions are valued. It is based on social, political and economical equality for women. Feminists can be anyone in the population, men, women, girls or boys.

Feminism can also be described as a movement or a revolution that includes women and men who wish the world to be equal without boundaries. These boundaries or blockades are better known as discrimination and biases against gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status and economic status. There are many different types of feminist theory and each has had a profound impact on women and gender studies.

The first is cultural feminism, which is the theory that there are fundamental personality differences between men and women, and those women’s differences are special. This theory supports the idea that there are biological differences between men and women and sexism can be overcome by embracing the “women’s way.”

The second type is individualist or libertarian feminist. This feminism is based upon libertarian philosophies, with the focus on autonomy, rights, liberty, independence, and diversity. The  ideology focuses on social change, and “attempts to draw lines between biologically – determined behavior and culturally- determined behaviour” in order to free both men and women as much as possible from their previous narrow gender roles.

Finally, there is liberal feminism, a theory that focuses on the idea that all people are created equal and that education is the primary means to change discrimination.

In any case, the development of feminism is one part of activities to appeal human equality and it asks for our concern.

Don’t be intimidated by the beauty of Latin American women

The thought of me approaching Latin American women used to scare me a lot; seeing as I am just an ordinary guy with a crush on these Hispanic beauties. I used to wonder what it would feel like just to be able to walk right over to one of them and embarrass myself. I always thought I would be rejected out rightly. A friend of mine then suggested I try making contact with those who are online, those who are also there in search for love.

Gender Equality in Answering Service

March 27, 2011 by jeff · Leave a Comment

Since organized labor came into existence, there has been this cry over inequality. Workers and employees cried foul over discrimination in wages and working hours. The most consistent of this was inequality in terms of gender. Women were not paid the same compensation packages and that is the bitter truth even today. That scenario is completely different if you look at the answering services industry. The call center sector is a pioneer in a lot of aspects. It gave many cities a throbbing night life. It gave hope to the not-so-academically bright students, an opportunity to work with the best and learn. An understated fact is that call center services gave women the right to equal pay.

Women have been part of the answering services industry since it came into vogue. There was a bit of hesitation in the conservative belts of the third world countries. Determined and focused women broke open those shackles and before long, you saw many of them gracing the floor of a call center. If you say that they could be part of the workforce because the conditions were suitable for them, you would be wrong. Working at a business outsourcing wing is a high-stress job. There are steep demands of deadlines and you have to be really upbeat about your work to survive the drudgery of graveyard shifts. The women have proved that they can be as, if not more, competent than the men when it came to handling work pressure.

The best part about working in the answering services that really attracted women was the pay. They had heard that in other industries of the third world countries, women had to work twice as hard to earn as much as men. In times of promotion, many more deserving women swallowed up their frustration when they saw less capable men toppling them over and moving ahead. That changed with the coming of the call center world. This was a world of equal opportunity. This was a world where women call center agents earned as much as their male counterparts. In fact, many of them have found their true calling in telemarketing because of the nature of the job.

Telemarketing call center services need patience and careful handling of callers and potential customers. Women, being naturally instinctive, are more suited to handle irate callers. They are also better at persuading the callers into buying, or at least showing an active interest in the products and services that they are trying to sell. Call center agents have to deal with a lot of aggressive behavior at the workplace. Human psychology studies have proved that men and women generally respond softly when it’s a woman on the other end of the phone. That works great for answering services. In terms of promotion and appraisal as well, women are given equal importance. Employers of the call center units know that women are a productive section of their workforce and they take care to deal with them with the due respect.

Gender equality so close, yet so far

‘lets unite and make the road from a declaration to a Protocol, campaign for Gender Protocol, move from an era of commitment to an era of implementation’.(Permanent Secretary of Women Affairs Gender and Community Development)

But an honest criticism is hard to take particularly from a relative ,a friend an acquittance or a strange but in this case from a female counterpart towards gender equality.

The struggle for gender equality amongst men and women is far from being won.

Men are still reluctant to accept women as their counterparts

The question still rings in my mind,’How far true is it that women are equal to any task given the platform and can they work alongside their male counterparts?’

‘For women and men to work together we need to progress the dialogue from dependency of women through independence to interdependence(Dr Olivia Muchena Minister of Gender,Women’s Affairs and community Development)

Meanwhile ,many questions still remained unanswered, will women dominate in all sectors?

The issue emerged from Parliament debates but matters of the government are generally seen as a prerogative of men in Zimbabwe .Although women constitute 51 percent of the population ,women are grossly under-pressure in Parliament

Women are outnumbered in positions, politics in particular as the main factor limiting them from participation in politics is gender composition of leaders in the political parties and the procedures for parliamentary elections .Political parties are in general, dominated by men who silent candidates or influence the selection at the constituency and provincial levels.

Women politicians are not heard relative to their strength in parliament but by any miracle they happen to be elected they are only figures in name not in power

The global political environment is becoming competitive can women survive?

‘We are not clambering to displace men but we only need an additional chair.” Dr Utete Permanent secretary of Gender ,Women’s Affairs and community Development.

Right away from the onset God created man and he made it clear by first creating men and from men’s side he formed a woman.Had he created them together what would have happened

Iam not saying women are not important, men are important no get me right.

Journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Its not over until its over.A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless if you fail to make a turn.

Meanwhile women are advocating for the ratification and domestication of the Gender Protocol in Parliament which was signed by SADC leaders early last year.

Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana : Initiatives towards gender equality

December 1, 2007 by jeff · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Women Leader

Women’s empowerment, the most important goal of Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Pariyojana (RGMVP), is a sensitive issue in with deep-rooted patriarchal and feudal social connotations.

While the Programme has been successful in enabling women to assert their right to control the resources of the household and to participate in decision-making for their families, gender and social issue continue to pose challenges for the complete empowerment of women.

Traditions such as the purdah system, discrimination on the basis of caste and class, lack of respect of the identity of the woman, and total disregard for the rights of the girl child and the woman are rampant, and have served to undermine the position of the woman in society for centuries.

Traditional beliefs, social taboos and blind faith have contributed to endangering the health of the mother and child through beliefs such as sauri-patha which dictates that, after delivery, a woman cannot step out into the sun for one week, or that the first milk (colostrum) should be offered to the gods rather than being given to the infant or that Polio drops lead to infertility in later life.

The primary challenge faced by RGMVP is that of changing the belief systems and making them more sensitive to women so that they are given equal opportunities. A strategy that has proved especially effective in dealing with these challenges is that of integrating the Swathya Sakhi programme and the Gender and Social Action initiative.

Since the Swasthya Sakhi is a woman from within the community and understands social perceptions, she becomes a powerful advocate for change. Convergence with the Community-led Healthcare initiative and with public health functionaries is also used to reiterate and reinforce the importance of natal, antenatal care, maternal and infant care.

The Gender and Social Action initiative works to sensitise women. Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions have been organised on gender issues for RGMVP staff and community leaders. They have been sensitised to various issues from a gender perspective. They in turn use advocacy and motivation building to create awareness about these issues to bring about changes in perspectives and attitudes in each household.

Gender Committees have been formed to take this agenda forward. Each Gender Committee consists of women who have been trained to understand the gender issue and its dimensions; they in turn discuss this issue meets to create awareness and to resolve problems related to gender within the community.

Discrimination on the basis of being a woman, or of belonging to a certain caste, class or community, has lost its hold on self help group (SHG) women. The ability to earn and to generate funds has given the women the confidence to participate effectively in community life, and therefore to establish an identity for themselves as well as to earn the respect of the community.

Efforts ushered into social domain having various forms of inequality towards women under the gender and social action of RGMVP are bringing new dimensions with emphasis on equal status for women in the societal structure, with no space for traditional indiscrimation.
