Today, there is over 100000 women’s Self Help Group reporting to have credit linkage with bank through micro credit schemes. These groups have been promoted with the support of NGOs (something under national schemes) and bilateral or multilateral donors, like United Nations and the World Bank. Actually, the World Bank has set a target of reaching 100 million of the world’s poorest people with micro credit schemes, and has placed micro credit at the center of its global strategy for poverty alleviation. In India, NABARD plays a key role in assisting banks and NGOs involved in micro finance schemes.

Many people think of Woman’s History month as a time to celebrate the accomplishments once a year. In reality Women’s History month should be celebrated all year long. There are outstanding accomplishments by women everyday. They are not afraid to launch into careers that were dominated by men. They have accepted this as a reality in their profession. Over the years the number of women in medicine, engineering and business has grown. They are becoming the role models for future generations of leaders in this country. It is great to witness woman who add a diverse perspective in education or business professions.
At the forefront of education there are women who lead as superintendents of schools, principals, teachers, college, faculty and presidents. In Philadelphia Dr. Ackerman is transforming the best practices of teachers and administrators across the School District. Women bring fresh ideas into the halls of education. They are designing the new curriculum that incorporates technology like smart boards and computers. Women understand that there are multiple ways to learn. The future of education will be transformed by teachers who are willing to innovate by using new classroom instruction methods. Change is also evident in some schools were students are using laptop computers throughout their day.
As we move forward into the 21st century, we must never forget the ways that women have positively altered our lives. Their words have carried the power to change state and federal policies. They have authored books that challenge each of us to strive to be excellent people. If we continue to value the contribution of woman our future will be brighter and our lives forever changed. Leaders such as Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton are leading the way in government. They are offering valuable insights to young women who are pursuing leadership roles in their local communities

Women have made significant contributions to this country in times of war and peace. They have experienced the burden of a country in crisis. In homes across American, women have offered wise advice to children who become our future leaders. This is a part of history that is often ignored. How can we measure success? One way is to look at your bank balance. Of course this is fine if all you care about is money but this is just one part of the jigsaw. Some of the richest people who have ever lived have been among the unhappiest. Wealth without spiritual or personal fulfilment is a very shallow state of being. To be respected, to be looked up too, to give happiness to others. In short to be a leader.
One of the best ways to measure success is to look at ourselves through the eyes of others . Some of us are leaders, others seem happier following. The higher levels of success we spoke about above come from becoming a good leader. To get to the top we need the respect of others to perform our will. No one has ever reached the top solely by relying on themselves. That is why we need to look carefully about the type of relationship we decide to form with others .
Of course it would be naive to assume that the majority of leaders in the world of business are motivated by helping others. Yet the best companies to work for have something in common with the best people to do business with; they both have an atmosphere of mutual respect and decency and include sound and just morals among their most important guiding principles. Being a good leader requires hard work. But it will be worth it, because people will be far more likely to go the extra mile for you if they respect you and your principles.
It is important to recognise that this doesn’t mean you should be a pushover for that is just another extreme. If you are seen as too soft then that will be taken as a sign of weakness. Never should business be allowed to become too cosy. A good leader is able to command respect with out being a tyrant or a push over. A good leader finds that people and opportunity attract themselves to him like metal fillings to a magnet. This is because the good leader has struck the right balance of being just and fair but firm and hard headed when necessary. In the same way that the first priority of any captain is to put the interests of the ship as a whole before anything else, so too does a successful businessman or manager put the interests of their enterprise or project before anything else.
So what are the other secret ingredients of leadership. Among the most important is self belief. It should be pretty obvious that you are unlikely to get others to follow you if you do not have confident in your own abilities. The display of confidence is crucial for several reasons. First of all, it gives a clear physical presence of leadership ; a rallying point for others. Secondly, it inspires confidence in others knowing that there is a strong hand on the tiller. No finer example of this can be found than the tradition among 19th and 18th century captains to remain a visible presence on the deck of a ship right in the heat of battle. A tradition that cost the great Lord Nelson his life but inspired his men to victory and beyond. Thirdly, confidence creates an aura of invincibility in negotiations and other high pressure situations . Keep your cool, and enjoy the benefits that confident, clear decision making will bring.
They say that the devil is in the detail and that is why as a leader you must become a jack of all trades in every aspect of your profession or business . There must be not a single aspect of your organisation that you do not know anything about. You must be prepared to ask questions, read and do research . Stay abreast of all the most topical issues. Make sure that there is no part of your role or organisation that you can not advise about or comment on. A wise man once said knowledge is power and it is true. With knowledge you gain leverage among others. The experts you liaise with will respect you for the trouble you have taken in getting to know things you are not expected to understand. The more strings you add to your bow – the more confident you will become in all of your daily activities. This also sets an example to everyone else you are connected with. It should inspire others to confound expectation and become greater.
Why Women Rock the Entrepreneurial World
When I started my current business over a decade ago there were very few women in the field. It wasn’t that women didn’t have an eye for graphic design or the ability to learn how to program a web page, it’s just that men seemed to be dominating the field.
But there was something that I, as a woman, seemed to have that men in the field seemed to lack. Don’t get me wrong, this is not going to turn into some sort of tirade where men are the vermin of the earth, it’s just the way men and women are built.
Men are, by nature, very logical and analytical creatures. In fact, I use this “reality” in my favor whenever I have to approach a male business owner or decision maker. If you give them the facts, they find it easier to reach a decision. Women, on the other hand, have intuition. It’s not that we don’t think analytically or logically; we do! In fact we examine every angle almost to death before taking a step. It’s that we seem to have a third eye that gives us some insight that surpasses the bare facts.
Well maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.
The fact is women-owned companies grow twice as fast as all other companies and generate more than trillion in revenue annually. An odd fact when you consider that women still get paid less than men in corporate settings. It’s only when women become CEOs that they outpace men by 49 percent in earnings.
Maybe that’s why more and more women opt to strike out on their own, and become incredibly successful in the process!
What’s really uncanny is that women generally have less access to cash and credit. They find it more difficult to get the resources they need for a start-up. I actually started this business on nothing but a wing and a prayer. It wasn’t until I got an angel investor (quite by accident) that I was able to work full-time at my business.
So what is it that makes women so good at business? We’re just different! I mean men are so ultra competitive! We women, on the other hand, get right into the dirt together and find ways to help each other out and collaborate.
Since we’re not as cutthroat competitive, we focus on what really matters like family and taking care of ourselves. I think that leads to very balanced, happy business owners who are able to think more clearly about outcomes and how to overcome obstacles. And we can balance multiple tasks and thoughts so we can handle wearing many hats in those first crucial years as business start-ups.
Most women also love to socialize! When it comes to networking and connecting we not only do so for the good of our own businesses, we also help connect our colleagues, friends and anyone else in need! It makes us really good at the new social media craze. We also don’t mind sharing our really good ideas with others; we’re not afraid that someone will take off and do better.
Women have the ability to empathize which often makes us better at customer service. We don’t have to debate issues with our customers, and we’re much more open to negotiations and finding solutions. We know that customer loyalty is the key to any good business, in these days especially.
And, if all else fails, women are not afraid to ask for help!
When it comes to why women are so successful I think of my mother, the single parent, who often had to figure out ways to get by on less. She found alternate ways to accomplish her goals. And like so many women, obstacles only served to make her more creative and stronger. I see this in women I follow on Facebook and Twitter everyday.
So when you are sitting there with your head in your hands wondering if you’ve lost your mind trying to start a business or you don’t know about the next step forward, just take a look at your friends and you’ll see amazing women accomplishing things that some would never think possible.
