Heart Diseases in Women: Understanding Symptoms and the Risk Factors
While many people think heart disease is purely a man’s health problem, they are absolutely wrong. Women are also susceptible to getting a heart disease. In fact, records show that it is the top leading cause of death in women in the United States and more women than men die of heart disease annually. Compared to all cancers combined, heart disease kills more women ages 65 and above.
Knowing the Causes
The most common cause of heart disease in women is the narrowing or complete blockage of the coronary arteries, the main arteries that supply blood to the heart. While the disease may progress gradually, prevention is better than waiting for a heart attack. It is worthy to note that over 60 percent of women can no longer recover after experiencing heart attacks. Age is also a contributing factor in heart diseases in women. The older women become, the more likely they are capable of developing this disease. It does not mean, however, that only aging women should be concerned, women from all ages should take steps to help prevent having a heart disease. Having a healthy lifestyle is the best prevention.
Knowing the Symptoms
As with any illness, heart disease in women also has its own symptoms.. The most common is pressure on the chest that causes difficulty in breathing. Unlike men, this symptom not prominent in women with heart disease. In contrast to the usual chest crushing pain in men, more subtle symptoms are experienced by women because of the tendency to have blockages not just in the main arteries but also in the other smaller arteries that likewise pump blood into the heart. Other signs and symptoms in women are as follows:
•Abdominal, neck, shoulder or upper back discomfort
•Dizziness or lightheadedness
•Nausea or vomiting
•Shortness of breath
•Sweating
•Unusual fatigue
Knowing the Factors Contributing to Risk
•High Triglyceride Levels. High triglyceride level means high cholesterol. Triglyceride is fat in the body. The more of this body fat you have, the more likely it is that these fats would block blood passage into the heart.
•Excessive Alcohol. Low level of alcohol intake is said to mean lower risk of heart diseases than in those women who are excessive drinkers and non-drinkers as well. It is not, however, recommended for the non-drinkers to begin drinking alcohol. Alcohol can possibly contribute to a woman’s obesity, which will increase their triglyceride levels and raise their blood pressure; increasing their risk of having heart attacks or stroke.
Individual Reaction to Stress
Women may respond and react to stress in various ways. Unhealthy reaction to stress leads women to exhibit unlikely behavior like binge eating and smoking. Both can lead to heart disease.
Every woman is vulnerable to heart disease. Understanding the symptoms and knowing the risk factors may help protect against the leading cause of death in women. Fortunately, avoiding the causes and knowing the important symptoms may decrease their risk of having heart disease.
Women’s Empowerment – Why Goal Setting is a Necessary Activity For Your Best Empowered Year Ever
Where did you spend your time and was it spent wisely?
Did you realize the results that you wanted for women’s empowerment?
If you don’t know the answer to at least one of these questions it could be a result of not setting effective goals and incorporating systems to measure your effectiveness and provide a map of where
you want to go.
This is a necessary activity for your best empowered year yet.
You’ve probably heard about goals since at least Middle School (Jr. High for some of us) and paid little or no attention to this very important activity.
Is there really any benefit to setting goals?
Setting goals is a very significant part of success and positive accomplishments. People who set goals literally create a map of their target achievements in life, marking where they should begin, where to pause, where to delve a bit, and where and when to stop. Once this map is created, it allows the map drawer to check where
he is in the scheme of things and whether or not he is making some achievements that will take him closer to his goals.
What are some key benefits to setting goals?
1. Knowing how you are doing and what you should be doing to achieve your targets or dreams in life is a key benefit of setting goals. You will know if you can relax or if you have to double your efforts when you are falling short of the realization of your desired goal.
2. You are able to keep track of your progress which provides for excellent feed back.
3. As a result of setting goals you will find that you’re more motivated to achieve your plans.
4. Setting effective goals and achieving them will also help to boost your confidence.
I’ve listed just a few of the vast amount of benefits of setting goals.
However, goal setting is not enough, as this should be accompanied by a positive outlook and self-discipline. A person may have a blueprint of where he wants to go, but if he does not have the necessary discipline
to carry out the plan, then nothing will come out of it.
To be successful in goal setting, the goals that one has set for himself should be realistic and based on his capabilities, as well as selected and important external factors. Being too ambitious in setting up goals
can make the goals unrealistic and difficult to achieve.
However, do not also set goals that are too low because this might discourage one’s vision instead of achieving it.
If you haven’t taken the time to set some goals whether personal, spiritual or business goals there’s no time to wait. Goal setting is a necessary activity for your best empowered year yet.

Five Steps To Christian Leadership
Whether a Bible teacher, a small group leader or the facilitator of a Sunday School class, Christian leadership brings lots of challenges.
We all get tired. Most Christian leaders are volunteers, meaning they have “day jobs” and family responsibilities and jam-packed schedules. But God intends your service and leadership to be joyful. He has raised you up to do the very task before you. So, knowing that true fulfillment comes from being in God’s will, remember your call to leadership. God didn’t bring you to this place of leadership to fail
That said, here are five practical suggestions – along with some scriptural encouragement and wisdom – that will help you succeed.
Step #1: Pace yourself – See Heb 12:1, 1Thes 5:8, Eph 5:15 it’s human nature to wait to the last minute. Don’t. Plan your time. Understand that we all have the same 24 hours in a day. Identify your priorities, break them down into tasks and prayerfully commit them to God.
Similarly, be selective in accepting invitations to take on more work. Pray before saying yes. Know that even God rested. Your “down time” is not a luxury. It’s critically important to your physical, mental and spiritual health. Follow jesus’ example of prayer and solitude.
Step #2: Know what your job is… and what it isn’t – See Gal. 1:10, Luke 6:40 One job all Christian leaders have is to be an example. Let your lifestyle be one of evangelism and integrity. Know that people are watching. We teach by more than words so look atb your life carefully, as if you were the only Bible some people read.
You are also to be an encourager and a guide. Don’t be a stern taskmaster. Let your words build up.
You are not a fixer. Unless you have been trained and are serving as a counselor, most leaders are facilitators, teachers, mentors.
Step #3: Recognize your limitations – 2 Cor 13:5, Psalm 139:24
You will make mistakes. Understand that. learn from them. If you have hurt others, apologize promptly and seek forgiveness. Don’t let mistakes bring you down. Use them to build you up. Experience is a great teacher and we learn more from failure than success. SImilarly, be quick to forgive others when they make mistakes or hurt you.
Set goals. Work to learn more, gain wisdom and experience. Write down those goals. Identify your weaknesses and then figure out how to turn them to strengths.
Step #4: realize there is a cost – Phil 1:29, Luke 10:2
God has called you to a ministry. But realize that ministry is work. It requires lots of time. Something will have to go. Weed out from your life the distractions and pursuits that needlessly drain your energy and steal your time like too much TV watching or Internet surfing.
Also know that whenever a Christian steps up to leadership, Satan gets upset. Christian leaders have targets on their back. Satan does not want you serving. You will be criticized, sometimes with cause, often with out. The world will think you nuts. realize it just goes with the territory. Like Jesus said, if the world hated Him, how can we who follow Him expect anything different?
Step #5: Realize you will be blessed – 2 Cor 9:6, 2 Cor 9:10, John 4:36
As we said at the beginning, God has placed you in your role as a leader. That means he has planned your success. We may not see how or understand this side of heaven what’s happening but it is no accident you are serving where you are.
That means that the people you lead should be looked at as a gift from God. Just as it’s no accident you are where you are, its no accident that they are under your leading. Treasure them protect them. Shepherd them.
Know that God doesn’t make mistakes. Your leading will bring blessings.

The Role of Women in Christian prophecy
The Bible is fond of a metaphor for the church of Christ: a body. Inside of us are individual parts that either function well or do not.
Unfortunately, for one reason or another, the controversy over the role women have in church leadership still exists. While this is a debate within the church, it is clear: there are many examples of Bishops and Elders of the church inside of the Bible.
What about Christian prophecy?
There is also controversy over the roles of women as prophetesses. Again, the Bible – by far clearest voice of the authority of God in the church – is crystal-clear on the role of Christian prophecy for women. God wants women in prophetic roles. He knows that there is a place for them.
God placed women in roles as prophetesses in the Old Testament.
Here is a (short) list of prophetic roles for women in the Bible:
Miriam:
And Miriam the Prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women out after her with timbrels and with dances.
And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphted gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
-Exodus 15: 20-11
Deborah:
And Deborah, a Prophetess, the wife of Lapridoth, she judged Israel at the time.
And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
-Judges 4:45
Huldah
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahihm, and Achbor,and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the Prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Hnrhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jeritsalein in college);
and they communed with her.
I1 Kings 2234
New Testament Prophetesses:
Anna:
And there was one Anna, a Prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with feelings and prayers night and day.
And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
-Luke 2: 36-38
It is clear, there is a Biblical precedent for women inside of prophetic roles within the church of God. Christian prophecy should fully include women into the body of Christ. The church of Christ is a body, and the body should have every joint in place. Women are – by far-the large untapped resource to bring the glory of God unto the church. This is true of almost every single denomination, church, small group and family; each of these groups should give women a robust role in Christian prophecy within the church. If it is true (and it is) that the church is a body then half of the body is not being used like it should be. Let us energize this important half of the body of Christ in the role of the Christian body; galvanizing women into prophetic roles whenever the Holy Spirit calls.
How To Be Powerful Around Women
When you play Poker, you always hide your bottom card so no one will know what it is. Dating is no different. Don’t ever show your “bottom card” to a woman.
Let me show you what I mean. For example, if you’re the owner of a construction company, you can just tell her you’re in “construction”. Don’t tell her you’re an entrepreneur with a Porsche, get it?
Women love playing detective and getting information out of you – so let them. Don’t ruin their fun by offering information about yourself. Or they are going to find you boring by the second date and dump you by the third. You want to remain mysterious!
Furthermore, hiding your “bottom card” will allow you to seem MUCH more powerful and dominant. In Poker, if everyone knows what your faced-down card is, then there isn’t any point to playing since you can’t bluff. In dating, if a woman knows everything about you, then you will seem less powerful.
Powerful people are powerful because nobody knows just how powerful they are. Cult leaders never reveal anything about themselves. Politicians never let you know about their backup plans. Armies always hide their true strengths until they attack.
Do the same with women. Don’t boast too much. Let her find out things about you. This way, she has absolutely no idea about how exactly powerful you are, so she will just think you’re a real powerhouse or guru, get it?
