Though ladies have not been considered 2nd class voters in the country, there’s still this idea that men can do pretty much anything and can function well in labor-intensive needs. Women, from the other standpoint, can’t work in heavy construction unless they’re specially built with the right body.Maybe the sole answer to receiving better career opportunities is a university diploma.
The absence of cash and shortage of work opportunities have made counts for more complicated for a large amount of ladies. Furthermore , notwithstanding one’s try to spend less and cut down on their varied costs, infrequently, a complete month’s income just isn’t really enough to bring you or your kids to college. Certainly , there needs to be alternative ways that may help you shoulder the expenses.
Luckily, the govt. has been offering scholarships and grants to interested girls in order that they may attend college without paying up for it. Women’s instructional help is much better than loans and working two to three roles simply to finance your own education. Leadership Coaching Vs Leadership Training Vs Classes – Find Out Which Is The Clear Winner
In this recessionary period, many business leaders across the world are turning to a variety of solutions to help them build a solid set of leadership to help them (and their business) weather the recession as well as possible.
Leadership isn’t just a simple case of charisma + confidence + likeability. It’s a complicate web of factors and past events that create a unique culture in every single organisation. Leadership won’t just help protect the jobs of senior managers – but also employees as well. This is because better led companies are more successful, and thus have a higher chance of surviving the recession.
Now that we’ve concluded that good leadership will certainly benefit companies in the long run – lets look at the different solutions available to senior managers to choose from.
There are public leadership classes and larger seminars, smaller leadership training courses, or one on-one leadership coaching. As a simple rule – the methods become more expensive as the service becomes more personal. Each type of leadership development comes with benefits and drawbacks, so lets look at each one in turn.
Leadership Seminars and large leadership classes.
Good leadership seminars carry a cost of between £70 and £500 to attend, and this can be far higher if the class comes as part of a larger conference. The motivational speakers are usually publicly acclaimed, but their speeches won’t be targeted at your industry, never mind your individual company, and thus despite the high ticket price – a lot of work needs to be put in afterwards when the senior manager needs to convert what they’ve heard into a practical strategy to implement in their organisation. Many managers will find it hard to allocate enough time to this activity, and hence the benefit of the seminar will be all but wasted.
Leadership Training Courses
Leadership training courses generally cost between £800-£2000 for a course that will last several days. The manager will clearly be ‘out of action’ for an extended period during this time, and such, there is the added cost of having to find a temporary replacement just as if they had gone on holiday.
These courses deal with fewer individuals, and there is two-way communication between the students and teacher in such a way that the inherent value of the course is far greater. Not only are ideas and facts more likely to spark imagination when they can be discussed and debated, but some personalised advice can also be gleaned from these discussions.
Leadership Coaches
Leadership coaches charge around £100 per hour and travel to your office and thus creates a small problem for HR than the other two options. Leadership coaches I would describe as being a cross between a leadership speaker and a consultant, because of the way they will analyse the specific issues at the company, and tailor leadership skills and solutions to deal with them directly.
This means leadership coaches oversee some of the implementation, which ensures a higher success rate, but they can also provide critique on the managers behaviour and current initiatives, and this feedback is valuable.
In conclusion, these different solutions vary in cost and value to the company. For a proactive manager – a seminar could perhaps be all that is necessary. But for large companies where marginal increases in performance equate to very vast sums of money – it’s worth spending the extra money to hire a leadership coach/consultant who will maximise the benefit of leadership to the company.
But of course, you must always bear in mind, that the coach cannot run the company themselves – and thus if the CEO is sceptical and unwilling to comply with the coaches recommendations – the benefits may be limited.

HISTORY OF WOMEN AND MOTORCYCLES
By Elizabeth West
The motorcycle didn’t spring full-blown into this world. Rather, it evolved from the earlier bicycle. Women loved bicycles for the mobility and freedom they allowed. In fact, Susan B. Anthony said, “The bicycle has done more for the emancipation of women than anything else in the world.”
In the 1880s, bicycles were a huge fad. Then, in 1885, Gottlieb Daimler made one that had an engine. Strictly speaking, it wasn’t a bicycle, because it had four wheels instead of two. Two were safety wheels. This bike went a magnificent and stately 12 miles per hour.
An idea was born, and soon other motorized bicycles were invented. Perhaps the first true motorcycle was a charcoal fired two -wheeler made in 1869 by Sylvester Roper of Massachusetts.
Within two decades, motorcycles were being mass-produced. The first such bike was the Orient-Aster, which was made by the Metz Company of Waltham, Massachusetts. This state clearly loved its bikes. Another early cycle was the beloved Indian, made by the Hendee Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. (Later, the company changed its name to Indian Motorcycles.)
In 1902, Harley Davidson sold its first three motorcycles, and soon there were dozens of manufacturers. They had names like Marvel, Exelsior, and Henderson. The Depression killed off all but Indian and Harley, and soon only Harley remained.
Women enjoyed the motorcycles as much as they had enjoyed bikes. After all, they were economical and fun. They also didn’t have the stigma that they acquired later. Early riders were seen as adventuresome, not as outlaws.
In 1915, Indian motorcycles offered front and rear shocks. Since these cushioned the ride, people began to consider long-distance travel as a real option. That year, a mother-daughter team, Avis and Effie Hotchkiss, rode from New York to San Franciso. They didn’t take the direct route. Instead, they meandered about, covering 5,000 miles.
The next year, two society women in their 20s, sisters Adeline and Augusta Van Buren bought a pair of Indian Powerplus Bikes. They were the first people ever to climb up and down Pike’s Peak. They, too, completed a transcontinental ride. Their 3,300-mile trip took almost two months, and they had to contend not only with many unpaved roads, but also with social mores. Once they were arrested for publicly wearing trousers.
In the 1920s, Harley published a magazine called The Enthusiast. It sponsored Vivian Wales on a 5000 mile trip to a Harley factory. Another early motorcycle heroine was Bessie Stringfield, a.k.a. the Motorcycle Queen of Miami . She made 8 solo-cross country trips and was a motorcycle dispatch rider.
Bessie had started out with two strikes against her: she was a woman and she was African-American. At first, she couldn’t even get a motorcycle license in Miami, Florida. However, a police officer interceded in her behalf.
Motorcycles were also used in wartime, which gave them a lot of public exposure. About 20,000 Harleys were used during the WWI. They were ridden by couriers, soldiers, and others.
As motorcycle popularity grew, it was only natural that some people became highly skilled in its use. They showed off these skills in motordromes, which had been around since the turn of the century but grew in popularity during the 1930s. A motordrome often advertised itself as “A Wall of Death.”
Essentially, it was a giant barrel with a platform on top for viewers. They could look down on motorcyclists, who sped around the inside of the walls, held in place by centrifugal force. One of these early daredevils was Margaret Gast, who billed herself as “The Mile a Minute Gal.” She was not the only woman daredevil. May Williams and Jean Perry also performed on the walls.
By 1940, the United States had its first women’s motorcyle club, The Motormaids. Today, there are scores of such clubs. Anyone who wants more information about the history of women and motorcycles may want to check out the book Hear Me Roar: Women, Motorcycles, and the Rapture of the Road. I haven’t read it, but I’ve read several descriptions of it and seen the table of contents. It looks like fun.

Women Empowerment & Social development
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ABSTRACT
Empowerment of women that will have lasting impacts must involve consciousness raising before the social construction of gender, which subordinates women in the family, class, caste, religion, or society, can be changed. The economic empowerment approach has relied on improving women’s control over economic resources and strengthening women’s economic security. The results also suggest that policies to raise women’s age at marriage, enhance their educations and open greater employment opportunities will also help to empower them, at least in some respects. Our goal is to cause policy, institutional and individual change that will improve the lives of women and girls everywhere.
INTRODUCTION
India has also ratified various international conventions and human rights instruments committing to secure equal rights of women. he Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women. Women’s empowerment is an important agenda in the development efforts. There has been significant shift in approach of the district administration towards the development of women, especially the poor & the illiterate. When you train a woman, you help the entire family, the village and the nation. The current paper focuses on women’s empowerment in the domestic sphere—that is, their
freedom from control by other family members and ability to effect desired outcomes within the house hold.
EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN
Empowerment is a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional and multi-layered concept.Women’s empowerment is a process in which women gain greater share of control over resources – material, human and intellectual like knowledge, information, ideas and financial resources like money – and access to money and control over decision-making in the home, community, society and nation, and to gain `power’. According to the Country Report of Government of India, “Empowerment means moving from a position of enforced powerlessness to one of power”.
EDUCATION OF WOMEN
Education to women is the most powerful instrument of changing their position the society. Education also brings about reduction in inequalities and also acts as a means to improve their status within the family. In order to encourage education of women at all levels and to dilute gender bias in the provision and acquaintance of education, schools, colleges and even universities were established exclusively for women in the State. To bring more girl children, especially from marginalized BPL families, into the main stream of education, Government has been providing a package of concessions in the form of free supply of books, uniform, boarding and lodging, clothing for hostilities, mid-day meals, scholarships, free by-cycles and so on. As a result women’s literacy rate has grown over the three decades and the growth of female literacy has in fact been higher than that of male literacy rate. In 1971 only 22% of Indian women were literate, by the end of 2001 54.16% female were literate.
The growth of female literacy rate is 14.87% as compared to 11.72 % of that of male literacy rate.
Women and environment conservation
Women can play a major role in conservation and restoration of the environment. Rural women use unconventional and nature friendly source of energy in the form of animal dung, crop waste and fuel wood. Using of solar energy, biogas, and smokeless stoves can really help the rural women as they can act as environmental friendly tools.
Safe Travel Tips For Women
Always be alert and aware of your surroundings, especially the people. Just as you would at home, walk with purpose, look and act confident Watch the crowd. Thieves prefer large crowds for pick pocketing. Besides the possibility of losing it or having it stolen, displaying expensive jewelry may send a message that you have more and may be worth robbing. Although you may consider buying and wearing a cheap wedding ring to give the impression that you have an escort. This may also help to avoid any unwanted attention from trolling men. Things to have in your bag: Flashlight, cell phone-if there is service, snack, ID, whatever over-the-counter medicines you may need and, of course, a camera to get pictures of all the great places you visit so you can show your skeptical friends when you get home.
Self-help & enterprise
Women have gone into the making and marketing of a range of cottage products – pickles, dried fish, organic manure, spices, agarbattis, tailoring, embroidery, etc. Backed by ITC’s marketing support, cottage products like agarbattis and chikan embroidery are emerging as profitable rural industries. Many of the micro enterprise opportunities are simple and can be started with little capital, such as broom making, basket making. Other enterprises need more capital and micro financing. The women meet together weekly to learn ways to get their new business started and successful.
WOMEN’S LAND RIGHTS
When women have access and secure rights to land, they are better able to improve the lives of their families and themselves. Unfortunately, women in many poor countries do not have access to land or lack secure property rights to the land they do possess. Land rights confer direct economic benefits as a source of income, status, nutrition, and collateral for credit. Access to agricultural land can mean higher household calories and consumption. However, women may not fully participate in these benefits as members of a household if they do not share formal rights to land. Most women have access/possession of land but do not legally own it. Unmarried women they do not own major forms of property in their own right. Few women have land registered in their names.
women’s ownership of property is governed by statutory law, customary laws and religious law. The marital status of women is also critical to owning or accessing property.
Health and well-being
Health and well-being is a concept related to the substantial differences between women and men intheir access to sufficient nutrition, healthcare and reproductive facilities, and to issues of fundamental safety and integrity of person. According to the World Health Organization, 585,000 women die every year, over 1,600 every day, from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. The complexity of the social and cultural issues, combined with the stigma and fear of disclosure lead to a situation where only a small proportion of the crimes of sexual assault, child abuse, wife battering and gunrelated violence are ever reported, making accurate data extremely difficult to obtain.
Status of Women in Tamil Nadu:
Tamil Nadu’s population growth has been stabilized and growing slowly over the years thanks to the welfare measures taken by the Government. Femalepopulation constitutes nearly half of the total population in the State. The status of women with regard to population over five decades.
conclusion
I conclude that policies to raise women’s age at marriage, enhance their educations and open greater employment opportunities will also help to empower them, at least in some respects. We choose to focus particularly on women, because in every society they struggle against gender norms that limit their resources and opportunities for improvement, and because we know that women’s empowerment is a tremendous resource for social change and a broader fight against global poverty. Our goal is to cause policy, institutional and individual change that will improve the lives of women and girls everywhere.
Women and Leadership
As women become more and more prominent within corporations the challenges for female leaders in male-cultured organizations begin to crystallize. The accepted practices of their male counterparts are not always working for women. Women need a new map of how to continue to succeed as a female leader. Executive coaching for women addresses these challenges.
LDI has experience working with women executives and other women in leadership roles. We assist women in navigating the politics and bringing their strengths to the table. At LDI our leadership coaches have over 15 years of experience in executive coaching for women and supporting all levels of leadership for women.
Intelligent, aspiring and hard-working women have come to realize that what they produce, by itself, will not necessarily get them recognized and elevated. Somewhere in their career they begin to realize that to be successful in business a woman needs to develop specific leadership skills for women. That is made even more difficult if she has no female mentors above her to carve the path, or none with any time or ability to teach her. LDI’s executive coaching for women helps female leaders develop the capabilities that are essential to women including leading from the front, communicating from a place of certainty,(without becoming overbearing) setting the tone for her organization, communicating her worth in many forums including asking for a promotion when it has been earned, gaining visibility, confidence and accelerating her development.
Leadership for Women:
Essential Female Leadership Traits
Vs. Female Socialization
Tenacity vs. Compliance
Women have been taught to be compliant rather than to persist and persevere for what we believe. Tenacity is essential for women to get comfortable with in order to be seen as credible. This goes hand-in-hand with a wilingness to really compete.
Communicate from a place of certainty about yourself vs. “Don’t brag”
Leadership for women feels like foreign ground for some women when they need to highlight their accomplishments. Being willing to report out their accomplishments needs to become as normal as breathing.
Asking vs. Attaining by merit only- Assignments, promotions or salary. “I shouldn’t have to ask. My boss should realize I deserve this.”
Women need to get past the idea that they can earn what they deserve through merit alone. Women need to get comfortable being able to ask for deserved promotions etc. in order to not be regularly overlooked.
Lead vs. Help
Men are very conscious of hierarchy. Women tend to ignore hierarchy and believe that it is unimportant. Men see women’s reluctance to grasp for the upper hand as a sign of weakness. We need to understand this as we strive to excel in a hierarchy.
Setting Direction vs. “Be cooperative and build consensus with everyone.”
Building consensus with everyone, while great in theory, is not always time effective and looks indecisive from the male viewpoint. When men see a woman gather people together for every decision they conclude that this is a person who cannot make a decision.
Setting Limits vs. “It’s not nice to say ‘no’. People won’t like you.”
Often women find themselves having to say “no” or set limits/boundaries in leadership roles. With all of the socialization around being nice many women find it difficult to keep the best interest of the company at hand and to say no, firmly, when necessary.
Taking Risks vs. “If you’re making unpopular decisions or you have unpopular opinions, you’ll be unpopular.”
Especially in meetings and other large forums, women need to be willing to have their voice and speak out with an unpopular opinion. To be seen as a leader a woman must not be seen as a person who waits for the popular opinion and then agrees.
Dealing with Conflict vs. “Being nice”
Women need to be willing to walk right toward conflict. Period.
Being Direct/Having the Tough Conversations vs. Communicating indirectly so as not to offend anyone.
While women have often been taught well to cloak a difficult message, not clearly stating issues in a tough conversation appears weak and deferential. It also leaves people unclear about what you were needing or requiring.
Leadership for women cannot be discussed without mentioning The Power Dead-Even Rule which is well described in the book, “In the Company of Women” by Pat Heim and Susan A. Murphy. It is an unspoken rule that women can witness and accidentally participate in, over and over if they are unaware of it. Many women, at heart, don’t really relate to hierarchy. They often believe that we are all in this together and all more or less at the same level. This creates particularly difficult dynamics on female teams when an internal woman is elevated. If not handled well, there is often indignation throughout the team, if not out and out rebellion, regarding why she got promoted. In order to successfully promote women it is critical that we understand this dynamic.
Executive coaching for women is a powerful tool in navigating organizational dynamics, and accelerating her won leadership strengths. In LDI’s programs we discuss successful strategies in dealing with all issues regarding women and leadership. For more information on leadership coaching for women call 408-725-1083 or email info@contactldi.com,our URL http://www.contactldi.com/.
We believe that developing women is essential to creating great organizations.

Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana : Initiatives towards gender equality
Women’s empowerment, the most important goal of Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Pariyojana (RGMVP), is a sensitive issue in with deep-rooted patriarchal and feudal social connotations.
While the Programme has been successful in enabling women to assert their right to control the resources of the household and to participate in decision-making for their families, gender and social issue continue to pose challenges for the complete empowerment of women.
Traditions such as the purdah system, discrimination on the basis of caste and class, lack of respect of the identity of the woman, and total disregard for the rights of the girl child and the woman are rampant, and have served to undermine the position of the woman in society for centuries.
Traditional beliefs, social taboos and blind faith have contributed to endangering the health of the mother and child through beliefs such as sauri-patha which dictates that, after delivery, a woman cannot step out into the sun for one week, or that the first milk (colostrum) should be offered to the gods rather than being given to the infant or that Polio drops lead to infertility in later life.
The primary challenge faced by RGMVP is that of changing the belief systems and making them more sensitive to women so that they are given equal opportunities. A strategy that has proved especially effective in dealing with these challenges is that of integrating the Swathya Sakhi programme and the Gender and Social Action initiative.
Since the Swasthya Sakhi is a woman from within the community and understands social perceptions, she becomes a powerful advocate for change. Convergence with the Community-led Healthcare initiative and with public health functionaries is also used to reiterate and reinforce the importance of natal, antenatal care, maternal and infant care.
The Gender and Social Action initiative works to sensitise women. Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions have been organised on gender issues for RGMVP staff and community leaders. They have been sensitised to various issues from a gender perspective. They in turn use advocacy and motivation building to create awareness about these issues to bring about changes in perspectives and attitudes in each household.
Gender Committees have been formed to take this agenda forward. Each Gender Committee consists of women who have been trained to understand the gender issue and its dimensions; they in turn discuss this issue meets to create awareness and to resolve problems related to gender within the community.
Discrimination on the basis of being a woman, or of belonging to a certain caste, class or community, has lost its hold on self help group (SHG) women. The ability to earn and to generate funds has given the women the confidence to participate effectively in community life, and therefore to establish an identity for themselves as well as to earn the respect of the community.
Efforts ushered into social domain having various forms of inequality towards women under the gender and social action of RGMVP are bringing new dimensions with emphasis on equal status for women in the societal structure, with no space for traditional indiscrimation.
