Any business is only as good as its employees and this is also true of the management of that business. Managers should possess excellent leadership skills and be able to lead their teams and use all of their skills to motivate their staff to perform well and meet their targets. Without effective leadership a business will eventually start to lose profits as staff will not be driven to excel and improve on their performance and this is something that business owners should avoid at all costs. Due to this is now standard practise that managers attend leadership courses to make sure that they have the skills required to inspire and lead their staff effectively.

If you are a business owner who thinks that their managers would benefit from leadership courses here are some areas that should be covered within that course to make it as beneficial as possible -

* Leadership skills these are the basic foundations of what makes a good leader or manager and these are the skills that should be constantly practised by your team.
* Working within a team this is essential as to be a good leader you must also be an effective member of that team.
* Performance management all managers/team leaders need to have a sound understanding of performance management as this is one of the core principles of effective management.
* Coaching skills in the workplace today there is a great deal of emphasis on coaching as it is increasingly used as part of the performance management process, so all managers/team leaders should be able to coach their team effectively to maximise their performance.
* Feedback being a manager/team leader involves having to give both positive and negative feedback to your team, good leadership courses should include a section on how to do this effectively.
* Team building team building is an important aspect of being a manager/team leader so all good leaderships courses should include a section on this so that managers/team leaders can develop their own team building skills and use them on a daily basis.
* Motivation and inspiration without these two key factors to drive a manager/team leader each day they will be of little use in motivating and inspiring their teams. Leadership courses should show new managers/team leaders how to get the best from their staff through being someone who can motivate and inspire them to achieve their goals.
* An understanding of the Employment Law this is crucial for any manager/team leader as legislation on employment can change from year to year so it is important that your leadership team are up to date and have a working knowledge of the laws surrounding employment.

These are just a small selection of the topics that a good leadership course should cover. If you are looking for training courses that will meet the needs of your business Premier Training offer a range of tailored to suit courses that would be suitable for you and are delivered by experts in that particular field.

As per the Indian Education Commission – 1964-66 the education has been spelt out due to some social changes in the country. Inducement of social changes in the country, act as one of the fundamental functions that gives a separate identity to educated people. From the days of independence womens education is always remain in the headings of education department. Where they committed to open new schools, launched new schemes, providing more facilities and education services to girl students. As it always been seeing from last few decades that girl students are not allowed to pursue education or they are giving preference by their families to get higher education. It is only reason why girls remain behind from boy students. As we put some light on previous recorded data the crime on girls after marriage increases day by day. The reason is girl’s dependence upon their laws. Ensuring Effective Leadership Choice in Organization

This article will provide brief overview about the concept and definition of leadership, set of competencies required and choices of power available for leaders through which they can work for organizational benefits.

There is no second thought about the fact that like in normal social life, organizations cannot deny existence and effectiveness of leadership for organizational objectives. In the simplest way, leadership can de defined as influencing other to act towards the attainment of a goal (Rehfeld, 1994, Greenwood, 1993) that in organizational sense mean business objectives. To attain such goals, leaders require a distinguished set of competencies, should enjoy some forms of power and can choose from various leadership styles with relevance to scenario requirements (Papers4you.com, 2006).

It was argued that to secure effective leadership, organizations should examine five core competencies including empowerment, intuition, vision, value congruence and self-understanding (Slocum & Hellriegel, 1996). It was argued that through empowerment, leader influences and control followers while intuition-manifested ability of a leader to scan a situation, anticipate changed, and take risk as well build trust. Similarly a leader should have self-understanding of his opt her own strengths and weakness to make best use of his strengths and avoid strategies that can be adversely affected by weaknesses. Moreover the leader should have vision to imagine scenarios and future path and deciding ways to achieve best possible set of strategies related to his visionary future (Papers4you.com, 2006). However one the most important required competency is value congruence that is leader should have ability to understand organizational goals as well as employees’ values and then reconcile both to optimal level.

Koontz & Weihrich (1990) asserts that for leadership choice organizations should identify the person with a particular set of effective leadership ingredients. That ingredients include ability for effective and responsible utilization of power, ability to realize that in different situations and times human beings get motivated differently, should have inspiration power and ability to ensure conducive motivating climate of his or her team.

Once a leader is chosen with best match of these competencies, leader should consider the best use of available powers he possesses. According to Slocum & Hellriegel (1995), five different powers are available to leaders. They can use legitimate power due to their formal position in organizational hierarchy as well as reward and coercive powers by facilitating ability to influence followers by either rewarding them or to obtain their compliance through punishments’ fear. As far as leader’s own personality charisma is concerned, leader should have ability to use referent power through which followers feel proud to get identification from association with leader. However leaders should have specialized knowledge of the tasks they are controlling so that followers can feel their expert power as well.

Hence the discussion implies that every member of organization can not become a leader so choice of leader should be made with relevance to the competencies and skilled required for effective leadership as well as ability to use power so that followers can get influenced

A gradual recovery in the economy brings silver linings around the clouds of recession. As the businesses see recuperation, so does fashion. 2010 will be a year of tradition. Experts predict a strong silhouette and sophisticated glamour. Classical silhouettes, and subdued colors will pop up in the store racks, and ramp shows. Key looks for the coming year will reflect the current economic situation.

Hottest Looks for the coming season:

The overall look and feel of the female dandy will take its inspiration from history, and will be seen in catwalks. With a appropriate mixture of sharp tailoring and stereotype clothes, they accentuate and flatter the fashionist womans hourglass figure.

‘See through’ Clothing:

Spring trends for the year will be more revealing. See through fashion clothing will give a cool and sexy look. Sheen and see through clothing will be a mixture of soft, feminine and a hardcore kitten look. Leadership Skills and Leadership Qualities

BASICS OF LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND QUALITIES, BUSINESS AND EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP EXAMPLES

Leadership qualities matter in business, in education. Yet the doctoral student can’t find information on leadership skills. If the discipline isn’t leadership she has to cry for help: What’re leadership qualities?! Others would like to know too what are the personal qualities of leadership! Business leadership is important. Educational leadership is in demand. But, what are leadership skills, qualities?

Reason for Leadership

Interest they have in business or educational leadership. Perhaps also leadership qualities. Knowledge of what is leadership, not. If they see a worker a few times resting who routinely unloads, sorts, stacks, rests, repeats, he is lazy. That’s not good leadership! If leadership qualities or skills are lacking it causes annoyance, loss of production.

Need for Leadership

Leadership in education or business are acquirable skills.

In Britain there is confusion on what is leadership. The Department of Employment has publications on how to train, e.g., supervisors. Yet even supervision are known to have been deemed by the Training & Enterprise Councils to be an inherent quality, by the Employment Tribunals with members from the Trades Union Congress and the Confederation of British Industry not an acquirable skill. In the USA the position is not dissimilar.

Leadership qualities aren’t the same as leadership skills.

There are exceptional ‘born leaders’, extraordinary circumstances calling for inherent leadership qualities for exceptional motivation with no apparent incentives. But routine administration, business leadership or educational leadership demand only professional acquirable skills.

Leadership qualities are different than leadership skills.

Popularity in Leadership

Approaches to administrative leadership differ. Business leadership strategies vary. Educational leadership policies change. So do leadership skills. The value of leadership qualities never change.

Leadership is about people. Good leadership is popularity based. A French emperor called his soldiers his children, after a defeat again raised volunteer armies. A popular Scottish preacher got nominated for the US senate.

Leadership qualities are inherent. But leadership skills often suffice. Both involve popularly interesting people.

Popularity aids leadership qualities. It helps leadership skills. So in business or educational leadership.

What is Leadership?

Charisma alone it isn’t. Nor is it love, care, perseverance that enables popularity in successful leadership. It is also an interest in understanding the human nature, knowing what motivates. That is the basis of leadership.

A car plant boss praises the night shift’s work, the day shift competes for equal pride, production increases.

A congressional medal, the offer to be Education Secretary, a biographical movie for a Chicago school teacher who enabled exam. success for eleven pupils was because she could get from them what an education authorities’ educational leadership skills couldn’t.

Personal Qualities of Leadership

Depending on approaches, business and educational leadership classifications vary. Basically all leadership are of two kinds: leadership and exceptional leadership.

The former is leaderships skills; acquired, ordinarily, routinely at work: e.g., leadership in education, business.

The latter is based on inherent leadership qualities. It enables exceptional motivation with incentives hardly perceptible in extreme inappetence. It is the most rare extraordinary leadership, enhanced by the most exceptional leader’s charisma, communication ability, wit, trustworthiness, with much philosophical, sociological, psychological insight, high logical reasoning ability, the vision, heroic courage, love, care, dedication, passion of rational sensible idealism, sacrifice in time, effort. This ‘moves mountains’; be it leadership in education, culture, religion, politics, business, it reforms: socially and historically visibly, lastingly, memorably changes established culture, life styles, society.

Exceptional leadership, business or educational or other -in one field or more, of historical noteworthiness demands personal qualities, for it begins with popularity that is not coerced but is by virtue of, irrespective of wealth or position, at personal level earned and deserved trust and faith in the genuineness, sincerity of one’s intentions -honesty in intention.

Professional Leadership

What is routinely at work is skills based leadership. Mostly it is leadership in education or in business, of the kind that acquirable skills are adequate for. It does not demand any exceptional leadership qualities. Acquirable are interested behaviour and competence. Proportionately to one’s degree of interest, basic leadership skills often suffice to function as a professional leader, to lead in one’s field.

On professional leadership many have written. There are commonly agreed basic modern leadership principles generally adequate in any field of average competence.

Effective Leadership

Leaders with leadership qualities or skills know this: The average employee does like to be so directed as presumes that he generally wishes to avoid responsibility with relatively little or no ambition and dislikes work except to the extent essential for survival with basic security. People have an inherent need in an adult way to exercise their understanding, capacities, skills motivated by incentives also non-economic and culturally varying. This appreciation is a must for effective leadership.

Leadership Values

Trustworthiness is one of the personal qualities of leadership that can never be imitated in professional leadership for truly great achievement. But the skilful appearance of trustworthiness succeeds. Usually the only task of professional leadership is obtaining the co-operation of colleagues and employees.

This is best done, by making the organisation’s objects or visions pursued or desired of personal significance to people. That must be based on their values and expectations to generate their energy and enthusiasm. Good leadership on that basis can prepare people for the various controllable and uncontrollable changes, appreciating that leadership attitudes matter above all and must be ‘trust’ based… In the 1990s’ England an industrial strike over pay continued after Railtrak agreed: the workers had discovered that the government had secretly sought to influence the negotiations.

Leadership Strategies

Trust is the most useful of leadership values. Good leaders’ people feel valued. Job satisfaction enhances performance and productivity and job satisfaction includes feeling valued. This leadership strategy avoids dissatisfaction, increases job satisfaction. Co-operation is based on others feeling valued enough to be trusted.

Information works at two levels: it shows trust and contributes to the leader’s objective others’ valid views.

The value of other’s valid views which free flow of information (or the successful [but risky] appearance of it) enables is not overlooked in good leadership. In, e.g., educational leadership staff’s familiarity with consumer culture, in business leadership workers’ consumer choices reduce the risk of missing the wood for the trees.

In leadership strategies learning from experience by trial & error is unaffordable in the short term. The complexities of long term results necessitate cultured thought.

Leadership Policies

If one looks at some educational leadership policies and business leadership examples one sees these:-

In the 1980s’ UK’s teacher surplus was followed by teacher shortage; in c. 2000 allegations of easy examination questions came to be replaced, with accusations of unanswerable examination questions being set, by allegations of school pupils being deliberately failed.

The British farmers union’s lateness in taking into account the effects of the European Union agreements enabling workers general employment rights in member states as opposed to previous restrictions on the types of employment, in 2007 resulted in loss of profits to many farmers because tons of strawberies could not be picked with less students and holiday workers from member states available for that particular type of employment.

In the 1980s’ USA, People’s Express Airlines folded – cheaper seats but they couldn’t see seat booking preferences. In the 2000s’ UK, Aria Technology Limited, its owner telling of having sold goods at 500% profit, in a matter of refunding about £100 for re-saleable goods estimated only the faxes it received to have cost it about £500. The USA’s regarding failure as experience for businesses meant an average pre-bankruptcy life of 11 years; and by the time it saw and began to adopt the European thought of motivating for pride in the job, Japan and Germany had captured 38% of the car market.

In thought based leadership ~in verse by Orhan Seyfi Ari -translated:

To overtake and win, like horses that race

Compete ideas in a head keen, to make the best choice

Leadership Qualities

In leadership it is generally agreed that personal leadership qualities mater. Success in leadership depends also on the degree of the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the needs and the expectations of those who are to be led, and of how the group is structured -especially as to the relevant situation immediately confronting them in their environment.

What exactly are the personal qualities of exceptional leaders, in leadership of historical noteworthiness, have not been able the psychologists to ascertain in terms of specific character or personality traits. But professional leadership also is people based and it often suffices to ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’

Leadership Skills

Personal qualities of leadership enhance professional skills. But in no field are called for exceptional personal leadership qualities or even professional skills routinely. In ordinary, e.g., business or educational leadership to envision and enable, to empower and energise routinely basic leadership skills suffice. These comprise simply of the knowledge of, and an honest intention to also cater for, the expectations of those to be lead, any problems faced in terms of their means, abilities, social influences.

In ordinary routine leadership, subject to average competence in one’s field, nothing is basically essential other than this leadership appreciation and reasonable honesty -i.e., simply treating people as people.

Famous Women Entrepreneurs ? Three Things They Know About Success

October 4, 2007 by jeff · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Women Leader

I find it very inspirational to learn from famous women entrepreneurs who had an idea and made it happen. What’s interesting about some of these women is that they didn’t necessarily have the ideal background or circumstances for success but that didn’t hold them back.  They overcame their obstacles and became successful in a business world dominated by men.

There is a pattern that emerges when you take a look at what these diverse women entrepreneurs have in common—women like Mary Kay Ash, Anita Roddick and Debbi Fields. I found three things these famous women entrepreneurs knew and demonstrated about success that I’ve found critical in my life as an entrepreneur.

Three Things Famous Women Entrepreneurs Know …

1.    Believe in Yourself

Mary Kay Ash quote: “Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember you can achieve.”

I love this quote because the right mindset is the number one determining factor of success in business and in life. I frequently speak about the importance of having a healthy mindset. In fact, I’ve dedicated the entire first section in my Direct Sales Success System to mindset because it’s really the foundation of success.

As you can see in Mary Kay’s quote, to believe in yourself you have to let go of “limiting” beliefs. A “limiting” belief is something that you believe to be true about yourself that is not true and it prevents you from moving forward.

If you believe in yourself—you can achieve your goals. Regardless of your past success (or not), it is completely possible to be successful in the future. It requires your belief and ability to change the story you’ve been telling about your past circumstances. Truly knowing what you want empowers you to put your best thoughts and actions forward.

2.    Have a Support System

Anita Roddick quote: “We entrepreneurs are loners, vagabonds, troublemakers. Success is simply a matter of finding and surrounding ourselves with those open-minded and clever souls who can take our insanity and put it to good use.”

What I appreciate about this quote is its self-awareness. Although, I don’t necessarily agree that all entrepreneurs are loners, vagabonds or troublemakers, I do believe that we all have strengths and weaknesses. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned since starting Metromom is that you can’t do it alone. But, you can achieve amazing things when you build a team and leverage each other’s strengths.

If you want to be truly successful, then you must have a fantastic support system. I’ve learned to delegate whether it means having friends to carpool my kids, VA’s to set-up my ezine or business coaches to help me discover the next step in my marketing plan. Learn to enjoy the collaborative process of what others add to the process of building your business.

3.    Be of service

Debbi Fields Quote: “The principle was right there – you couldn’t miss it. The more you did for your customers, the more they did for us.”

You can see from this quote that her focus was never just on a single sale, it was about creating a long-term meaningful relationship with her customers. When you step out of your own personal focus and begin

asking how you can be of service to others, you embark on the path to success.

Customers sense when your focus is on being of service and they reward you with their loyalty. Instead of focusing on “What’s in it for me?” – take the focus off of yourself. Shift your focus to “What am I going to GIVE?”

Whether or not you want to be famous, believing in yourself, having a support system and being of service will help you be a more successful and happier entrepreneur. Yes, there is much that we can learn from these famous women entrepreneurs or from other entrepreneurs in our lives that display true leadership.

Why Successful Women Feel Like Frauds and How Not To

October 2, 2007 by jeff · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Women Leader

As a female business owner with a client base that’s 80% female I receive many questions from outwardly successful women who doubt their abilities and fall prey to thinking “I’m a fraud”.

In my experience this is rarely something that men think, and as a single Mum and businesswoman managing parenthood with a relationship, friendships and a growing business I understand that we don’t always feel “successful”. But why do so many of us internalize our accomplishments rather than celebrate them and dismiss and minimize our success as mere “luck”?

I think there are three key reasons that successful women feel like imposters:

1. Women think about what they perceive this success as bringing them in respect to their identity before they achieve it, but see a different result when they get there.

Before they achieve success they think that when they are successful that they will be strong and empowered, yet they do not project beyond this point and what will it be like to have to juggle this success with the load of a family, friendships, relationship and other aspects of their lives. The reality vs the dream is most often very far apart.

2. Women refuse to put themselves first.

As a society we see ambition as aggression in women and so an ambitious woman is perceived as either angry or unfulfilled. When she actually takes off the hat of a mother, daughter, friend, girlfriend etc and makes a decision based on her needs she is labelled selfish.

When a woman feels that her career and success comes at the expense of everything around her, instead of being the vehicle that supports everyone and everything, I believe she has a subdued shame attached to the level of success she has and as a result lives in guilt and often anxiety. Ultimately this leads to a seemingly successful woman with all the external trappings, but who is very insecure.

3. When women start out on their career path it is very rarely, if ever, that they think how the impact of further areas of growth and development will impact in their sense of individuality, psyche and identity.

So they work hard to achieve everything and then when marriage, relationships or children come into the picture they have not often incorporated the flexibility these situations will need into their career.

Whilst men maintain their positions and justify their long hours as those sent supporting their family, women are seen as negligent or super women for doing the same paid work load plus manage a family. Women know intuitively that their concept of success and the life they have has meaning, yet when change such as family comes into it they suddenly become overloaded because they have not emotionally made the rules of engagement work for them pre-success.

But what you can do to change and become more empowered in your success – however you define it?

a) Decide why your success is important to you. What does it allow you and create for you?

b) Decide how you wish to use your success to enhance other areas of your life.

c) Understand that success (often linked to control) in some life areas does not necessarily mean instant or formidable success (and control) in other areas. For example, just because you’re great in the boardroom does not mean instant success with getting your baby into a good sleeping routine, but many of us feel that to be “successful” all areas of our life have to be as strong and operate as well as each other.

d) Make a plan beyond your immediate success that is flexible enough to allow for family and relationship changes – and make it about what’s realistic and workable for you, not what society or others expect of you.

e) Understand that you can absolutely have it all in life – you just need to space and place it all and ensure that you bring in the resources you need to support your continuing success.

There is nothing “fraudulent” or “lucky” about achieving your success goals and nor is there any “cheating” or “fraud” involved in recognizing when you need help to plan and manage success in the many areas of your life. Women are taught to feel guilty about so much that the real fraud lies with not recognizing your value and not taking steps to harness your potential success across every aspect of your life.
